Flapdoodles Ice Cream North

Growing up as a kid in Alaska, my dad developed a passion for sailing. As it turns out, he named his very first boat, “Flapdoodle”. So on one level, naming the store after his first sailboat serves not only as a reminder of all the happy family memories I experienced on the boat, but also a tribute to my dad and the profound influence he had on my life. Truth be told, it was my dad who instilled in me, among other fine qualities, a deep affection for ice cream. In fact, one could easily say that my dad turned scooping and eating ice cream into an art form – if you think I’m exaggerating, just ask my siblings.

But that’s only half of the story. One day, I decided to find out what this rather strange word, “flapdoodle” actually means. According to the dictionary, the word means, “foolish talk, nonsense”. Soon thereafter the idea was hatched to open up an ice cream store where customers could enjoy premium handmade ice cream in a fun and nonsensical environment. As I like to say, it’s a place where the only thing that makes sense is the ice cream!
