Whether you're out for a weekend or in town for a longer stay, visiting the History Center of Olmsted County is just one of many amazing things to do in Rochester. The History Center of Olmsted County is your place to experience, explore, and examine Olmsted County's history. We are located on 54 acres in southwest Rochester, and our grounds include two historic farmsteads, historic buildings, and the History Center museum itself with many exhibits highlighting local history.
The History Center offers interpretive exhibits detailing history of Olmsted County ranging from Prehistoric, Paleo, Native American, to Early Rochester, and the Mayo Clinic; research library and archives containing over 600,000 maps, photographs, diaries, journals, and books relating primarily to Olmsted County and southeastern Minnesota. Each year the History Center of Olmsted County, together with its enthusiastic volunteers, provides presentations, educational and outreach programs, special events, museum exhibits, and more. The History Center currently owns and operates two historic buildings and two historic farmsteads. The History Center also operates seasonal tours of Mayowood Historic Home.
