About

The Mad Capper was founded in 1979 by Martin Anderson. In 1981, Richard and Kay Chilson purchased it and grew it into one of the longest tenure restaurants in Stillwater. After 20 years of success, their son Jeff and his wife Tammy bought it in 2002, and continue the Legacy that is the Mad Capper Saloon & Eatery.

The Building was built in 1890 as a shoe store. In 1900 it became a grocery store for only 6 years, becoming a Saloon in 1906 and has remained a Saloon ever since being The Zoo Bar, a billiards hall, Ertle Brothers from 1927 - 1971. John Ertle was a professional boxing champ with his practice ring in the rear of the Saloon. In 1977, it became a bar called Someplace Else, which we heard was exactly that!
