About

From the moment you arrive, you will enjoy the quiet family camping atmosphere with instant access to the Root River Bike Trail. Each of our 10 sites has full hookups and a fire ring. Our campground has access to clean restrooms, maintained softball fields, covered picnic shelter and a newly constructed playground. You will enjoy your quiet stay at this secluded campsite. $30 Rental fee includes full water, sewer, along with 20 and 30 amp hookups.

Wake up to the sounds of birds and wildlife! Then walk to breakfast at Burdey's Cafe with a delightful menu and prices. Relax in our peaceful town or plan an active day!

Stop at the Driftless Trading Post to rent canoes, kayaks, or tubes and let the outfitters bus you to your drop off. They also have a season menu for lunch and dinner. Return to the Peterson Landing and walk or drive back to your campsite.

After a day on the river you might enjoy a stop at the Peterson State Fish Hatchery and then try your hand at trout fishing in our nearby designated trout streams! The managers of the hatchery are very knowledgeable and will give tours.

Stop at the Peterson Station Museum/Visitor Center to get literature to help plan your days or just enjoy the exhibits expertly put together by our curator, John Erickson, and wife, Darlene. This is a must see while visiting Bluff Country. It is a completely restored historic depot with a modern addition acquired as the collection expanded. Established in 1974 after the Community of Peterson moved the former CMStP Railroad Station to its present site; it contains interesting local memorabilia, art, artifacts, and photographs of events and points of interest. This original depot was authorized in 1876 and built in 1877 as part of the former Southern Minnesota Railroad (1855). The museum also has a genealogy center for people of Norwegian heritage. Nearly 100% of Peterson's original settlers were from Norway. John Erickson, founder and curator, enjoys helping with research.

Ask for directions to the Peterson North Woods Trail. This leads to a breathtaking overlook of our beautiful valley.

Bike the trail to Rushford and walk or bike to the top of Magelssen Bluff for a breathtaking view of the Rushford Peterson Valley.

Continue on toward Houston and visit their trail head/nature center or wander over to the International Owl Center to visit Alice the Owl and her friends. The section of the trail from Rushford to Houston can be challenging with lovely scenery.

Lanesboro, Harmony, and Preston are the other direction and full of activities including shopping, Amish tours, and caves to explore.

For your convenience, a grocery store, hardware, drug store, and convenience store, laundry, gas stations, and liquor stores are less than 5 miles away from our campground.

Because we are just over the bridge from Historic Bluff Country Scenic Byway 16, in the heart of Historic Bluff Country, we offer a perfect place to play and plan additional day's events.
