The park is named after Henry Schoolcraft, who was guided by the Anishinabe, to the source of the Mississippi River at Lake Itasca. The Mississippi River is a little wider as it flows through the park, but this is a much quieter spot than the busy Headwaters. Hikers, campers, and canoeists enjoy a nice view of the river from the park.
