Where to Watch Sports in Minnesota
Minneapolis-St. Paul is one of just 12 metro areas with a team in every major sports league. The Twin Cities also have pro level players competing in the MLS and rapidly expanding WNBA, as well as semi-pro squads in women's soccer and minor league baseball.
Learn more about our legendary teams below to find out where you can cheer for your favorites.
PROFESSIONAL TEAMS
MINNESOTA LYNX
The Minnesota Lynx plays at Target Center from spring through fall. They won the WNBA championship in 2017, 2015, 2013 and 2011, the Commissioner’s Cup in 2024, and have reached the playoffs 12 times, making the Lynx one of Minnesota’s most winningest teams.
MINNESOTA TIMBERWOLVES
At Target Center in downtown Minneapolis, the Minnesota Timberwolves take the court. Fan favorite Anthony Edwards caused quite the stir in Minnesota during their 2024 Championship run and encouraged Charles Barkley to “Bring Ya A**” to Minnesota for the final round of playoffs. This exciting team is one to watch.
MINNESOTA TWINS
The beloved Minnesota Twins play outdoors at Target Field, regularly named one of the top 10 MLB stadiums in the country. Take in the views of the Minneapolis skyline and sample some of the unique fare, including local craft beers, walleye and chips, and a Bloody Mary has been adorned with a slider or a slice of pizza.
MINNESOTA UNITED FC
The Minnesota United FC play Major League Soccer at one of the state's newest stadium, Allianz Field in St. Paul. Minnesota was without a top-division soccer team for almost 40 years, and to say the United joining MLS in 2017 was exciting is a massive understatement. Home games are loud, rowdy and welcoming, thanks to the league's notorious fan groups who stand and chant all game long.
MINNESOTA VIKINGS
The Minnesota Vikings play at U.S. Bank Stadium, which in addition to hosting home Vikings games has played host to the ESPN Summer X Games, 2019 NCAA Final Four, 2018 Super Bowl, and big-name concerts in the offseason. The team also has a new practice facility in the suburb of Eagan, complete with a Vikings Museum and training camps open to the public.
MINNESOTA WILD
The Minnesota Wild play NHL hockey at Xcel Energy Center in downtown St. Paul. Hockey is a time-honored tradition in Minnesota, and fans are passionate about their team. The Minnesota Wild are no exception and the “Team of 18,000” is a sight to see.
MINNESOTA FROST
The Minnesota Frost are one of six charter franchises from the Professional Women's Hockey League (PWHL), and its first ever Walter's Cup champion. The team is quickly growing in popularity — tennis icon Billie Jean King is one of its biggest supporters — and play at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul.
SEMI-PRO TEAMS
MINNESOTA AURORA FC
The home of the women's soccer franchise Minnesota Aurora FC (Eagan's TCO Stadium) is just a short drive south of the Twin Cities. While 2022 was the USL W League's first official season, the tight-knit team nearly took its championship title in an overtime loss against South Georgia Tormenta FC.
ST. PAUL SAINTS
CHS Field in St. Paul’s Lowertown neighborhood is the home of the St. Paul Saints, and brings a taste of the majors to this minor league franchise. Tickets start at $5, and game days are all about fun; look for fireworks shows, between-inning antics, and a cast of entertaining characters.
Other semi-pro clubs around the state include the Duluth Huskies, Rochester Honkers and Mankato MoonDogs.
