Access points to the park are all just off Highway 53 and include Crane Lake, Orr, Ash River, Kabetogama Lake, International Falls and Ranier. Boat tours are accessed through the Rainy Lake Visitor Center and the Kabetogama Lake Visitor Center.

Voyageurs National Park is a water-based park with 218,054 acres and more than 1/3 of that acreage is water. The park consists of four large lakes and 26 smaller interior lakes. Vacation opportunities range from resorts with lakeside cabins to houseboats or camping on secluded islands. Voyageurs National Park has over 270 Frontcountry and Backcountry tent camping, houseboat, or day use sites. Overnight sites have been developed for a single party with tent pads, fire ring, picnic table, privy, and bear-proof food lockers. All overnight sites and most day use sites are accessible only by boat. From May 15 through September 15 annually reservation service and amenity fees apply. From September 16 through May 14 reservation service fees apply. Sight-see by motorboat, canoe or kayak. Enjoy swimming, fishing and hiking on more than 27 miles of trails. Summer ranger-led programs are offered from mid-June through mid-September. Equipment for fishing, camping and winter recreation can be rented locally. In winter, enjoy ice fishing, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing or snowmobiling on more than 110 miles of groomed trails.

Voyageurs National Park offers a variety of guided boat tours and canoe programs each summer on two separate lakes in the park. The majority of tours and programs will begin in mid-June and end in late-August. Some additional boat tours are available until mid-September.
