David Battistel - The First and Last Carload of Iron Ore from the Paulson Mine

The story of the Paulson Mine, located in the western part of Cook County, Minnesota, has captivated people for many years.
Touted as one of the great mining projects of the era, its failure in the early 1890s had a devastating impact on local economies spanning both sides of the border. For years afterward, many attempts were made to restart the mine, all of which ended with the same result.

50th Anniversary of Prairie Home Companion

The 50th Anniversary Prairie Home Companion is a 140-minute show celebrating the last live radio variety show. It begins with a six-minute video on PHC’s origins in Minnesota, followed by Garrison Keillor’s stand-up on the beauty of being 80. The show features comedy sketches, the Royal Academy of Radio Acting, and sound effects wizard Fred Newman. Highlights include an extended commercial for Powdermilk Biscuits, messages from various quirky sponsors, and musical performances by Rich Dworsky and the Guy’s Hot Shoe Band.

Art in the Park

Food, music, fine arts, and friends will gather for all fun when Art In The Park in 2024. 

Art in the Park is held at City Park in Alexandria, Minnesota. Entrance either day is free, however parking onsite is $5 per car. Come for the art, the variety of ethnic and Minnesota food options and the variety of entertainment that is performed in the park.

2024 Trapshooting Championship

hrough the combined efforts of the USA Clay Target League and the Minnesota State High School Clay Target League more 340 teams from across the state of Minnesota and more than 8000 student athletes will participate in the 2024 Trap Shooting Championship at Alexandria Shooting Park in Alexandria, MN. The nine-day event will bring an estimated 25,000 attendees to the area. The Championship is the team qualifying event for the Minnesota State High School League’s Clay Target State Tournament!
