Soon after this closing the structure became home to the Hewitt Museum. The Hewitt Museum was created to preserve & promote the history of the City of Hewitt, MN along with Stowe Prairie Township. The Herriman Lake Trail is 13 miles with loops. More than half of the trail is in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness (BWCAW) where permits are required. The Dovre Lake loop passes through mature red and white pines among rock outcrops. The Herriman Lake loop is a blaze of fall colors at the end of September. The Echo River stretch has scenic views of oxbows along the river.

Hermann Monument

Hermann (Arminius), a Cheruscan chieftain, negotiated an alliance with Germanic tribes to defend Germania from Roman conquest. In 9 AD, Hermann's forces defeated the 17th,18th and 19th Legions of Imperial Rome commanded by Publius Quintilius Varus. The Battle of Teutoburg Forest ended in the annihilation of about 20,000 Legionnaires. The Monument is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. In 2000, the 106th US Congress designated the Hermann Monument an official symbol of contributions made by Germanic-Americans.
