Fergus Falls Wetland Management District

The District manages 217 Waterfowl Production Areas totaling more than 44,588 acres in Otter Tail, Grant, Douglas, Wadena and Wilkin counties. These areas are managed for waterfowl production, as well as habitat for migratory birds, native wildlife and endangered species. These areas are open to the public for hunting, fishing, wildlife observation and photography. Public interpretive and educational programs are available at the Prairie Wetlands Learning Center.

Fenske Lake Cabins Resort

Secluded lakeside cabins nestled in the woods along the shores of the clear waters of Fenske Lake. Twelve miles from downtown Ely, MN up the scenic Echo Trail. Our quaint 1-3 bedroom cabins come furnished with linens, complete kitchen, private dock with sitting bench, aluminum canoe, row boat, fire pit, screen porch, and charcoal grill. Fenske Lake Cabins is a secluded, peaceful resort with true Northwoods charm. Sample some good fishing on Fenske Lake or plan a day-trip into adjoining canoe-only wilderness lakes where wildlife sightings are common.

Felton Prairie Wildlife Management Area

Birding site. Famous for its nesting Chestnut-collared Longspurs, Felton is also a good spot to look for prairie birds such as Swainson's Hawk, Upland Sandpiper, Marbled Godwit, Sedge Wren, Loggerhead Shrike and numerous sparrows. Several tracts owned by the Nature Conservancy are located in this general area as well.

Felton Prairie SNA

The Felton Prairie complex is the most important gravel prairie complex in Minnesota. Its four units are associated with beach ridges (former shorelines) of glacial Lake Agassiz. Mesic black soil prairie predominates, with gravel prairie on the ridges and wet black soil prairie occupying the swales. Among its rare features are a calcareous seepage fen, western prairie fringed orchids, Assiniboia and Dakota skippers, chestnut-collared longspurs, marbled godwits and loggerhead shrikes. The site is part of an Audubon Important Bird Area (IBA) and has long been a magnet for birders.

Feather Nest Inn

January 2016, our family reopened and renamed this quaint, five unit Motel. Established in 1966 as the Gunflint Motel -50 years this year! Located right in the heart of Grand Marais we look forward to carrying on the tradition of North Shore hospitality that our property has been known for.

Faunce Campground

Located in Beltrami Island State Forest, managed by Zippel Bay State Park. The campground is considered "primitive," designed to furnish only the basic needs of the camper. The campsites consist of a cleared area, fire ring, and table. In addition, vault toilets, garbage cans, and drinking waster are available. All sites are on a first come, first served basis for a fee.
This campground offers remote wooded sites and access to uncrowded forest lands.
