Focused on Craft: Flax to Fiber

Join a discussion of growing and processing the flax plant for multiple uses, as well as the important role flax has played in Minnesota history. A demonstration of the various stages of manual flax preparation will follow.

Led by Kora Boisvert, a teacher and nurse with an ever-growing interest in all things fiber. She has been spinning, weaving, and using natural dyes for over twenty years.

Coffee and Colors Sunrise Cruise

See the Northland's incredible sunrise PLUS fall colors from the water! The Vista Fleet's newest cruise allows you to hop onboard and get out on the water just in time to watch the iconic Duluth sunrise. This is an experience you will not want to miss as we only offer this during the limited fall season. Post-sunrise, we'll travel up the St. Louis River to explore the beautiful hillsides of the Northland as they display incredible fall colors! Learn about the Harbor, Duluth's history, the science and ecology of the St. Louis River system, as well view unique and historic bridges.

Take Me to the River

Take Me to the River is a celebration of the arts featuring ten fabulous art events over five fall weekends. Over the years, thousands of people come to the St. Croix River Valley to experience the amazing natural and artistic spaces of the region. During art fair season, you can experience art at every bend in the St. Croix River.

Large community art fairs are held alongside open artists’ studios. You have many opportunities to visit unique and artful spaces during Take Me to the River. New this year is The Front Yard Pottery Sale September 13-15 and Art at Belwin on October 6.

Making Minnesota

Join us at the History Center on Thursday, September 19th at 7:00 pm for a family-friendly evening with the author and illustrator of Making Minnesota, an interactive book about the history of our great state. Patricia Bauer will share the story of Minnesota, while illustrator David Geister engages youth in a drawing activity. Come out for some history, fun, and a free copy of Making Minnesota!

Kids, get creative! Learn about feed sack fashion and design your own masterpiece on September 14th at 1:30pm.
Few youngsters today understand the concept of using a 'bag' for fashion, yet those living during the depression era, and beyond, made creative use of the old sack bags used to store food and grain.
Join us for an informative and creative family event with Yvonne Cory as she shares her collection and vast knowledge of vintage aprons and feed sack clothing from her Joys and Tears in the Apron Strings collection.
