All Hands on Deck: Dance, Metamorphosis, and Surreal Labor in Silent Cinema with Live Music featuring Dreamland Faces

Hands give us metaphors for the urgency of collective labor, but they also appeared as surreal and uncanny images across the silent film archive. In this playful program, laboring limbs fall in love, catch fire, metamorphose into toy animals, chop wood, cut films, smoke pipes (while pregnant!), hypnotize circus dancers, and build zoomorphic shelters from the storm—all accompanied by Dreamland Faces’ live original score that includes Northrop’s historic pipe organ.

62nd Annual Marching Band Indoor Concert

An annual tradition for the entire family! With over 320 members, enjoy seeing and hearing “The Pride of Minnesota” in this lively, joyful, and participatory indoor concert featuring halftime favorites and more. One of the most exciting and highly visible organizations on campus, the University of Minnesota Marching Band, under the direction of Dr. Betsy McCann and Dr. John Leonard, provides enthusiastic support to the University’s athletic programs, and represents the University at events throughout the year.

The story began in Kerlis’s kitchen where her grandma taught her the art of making cafe de Olla – the traditional way of making Colombian coffee at home. Carrying that passion for coffee since then, she brought the richness, aroma, and nostalgia of Colombia to Minnesota.

Kids Triathlon

The Brainerd Kiwanis Club and YMCA are hosting the 16th annual Kids Triathlon at Whipple Beach in Baxter, Minnesota. The wide beach, protected swim area, and quiet, dead-end roads create a fun and safe venue for beginner and experienced youth triathletes alike. Registration will be limited to the first 350 registrants.

21st Unicycling World Championships

The 21st Unicycling World Championships, known as Unicon, is brought to you by the Sanford Center of Bemidji. Come out to watch the best unicyclists in the world compete for the world title in events ranging from a 10k, freestyle, trials, street, and mountain events.

Alcée Chriss III, Organ Recital

A featured star in the PBS documentary Pipe Dreams, Alcée Chriss III is an organist, composer, and conductor from Fort Worth, TX. The son of a minister, Chriss is known for incorporating gospel and jazz influences into his performance—having first learned jazz and classical on the piano before turning to the organ as a teenager. Winner of the 2017 Canadian International Organ Competition and the Bach prize, Chriss is widely regarded as one of the leading young organists of our time.
