Natural Dye Demo

Join Historic Forestville to gather natural elements from around Forestville and dye fabric. Use onion skins, black walnuts, and a number of other natural ingredients to dye skeins of fiber. Clothing comes in a variety of color from blue, purple, brown, yellow, and more. During the 19th century, natural dye was the most common practice of coloring clothing. Dye would be made up of natural resources from the surrounding area or purchased if a particular color was desired.

Movie in the Park - Shrek (Spanish Subtitles)

Once upon a time, in a far away swamp, there lived an ogre named Shrek (Mike Myers) whose precious solitude is suddenly shattered by an invasion of annoying fairy tale characters. They were all banished from their kingdom by the evil Lord Farquaad (John Lithgow). Determined to save their home -- not to mention his -- Shrek cuts a deal with Farquaad and sets out to rescue Princess Fiona (Cameron Diaz) to be Farquaad's bride. Rescuing the Princess may be small compared to her deep, dark secret. 

Mata Ortiz Pottery Sale

Shop over 250 pots from Mata Ortiz, Mexico during this exclusive sales event. From September 18-21, 2024 White Bear Center for the Arts’ Community Studio will be lined with beautifully intricate pottery from Mata Ortiz, Mexico. Mata Ortiz pottery is a unique style of ceramic art based on pottery found at the archaeological site of Casas Grandes in the Mexican state of Chihuahua.

Las Migas

Twenty years ago, four women joined forces and talents to rebirth themselves as Las Migas. In a short time, they found their way to the top of the international flamenco music scene. They received their first Latin Grammy nomination in 2017 and won the Best Flamenco Album award in 2022. Also, they won an Independent Music Award (MIN) for Best Flamenco Album in 2020. 

Hairball

Performing the music hits from Van Halen, KISS, Motley Crue, Queen, Journey, Aerosmith, and more, Arena Rock tribute band Hairball is coming to Mayo Civic Center on Friday, October 18, 2024 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets go on sale Friday, August 9 at 10:00 a.m. at the Mayo Civic Center Box Office and Ticketmaster.com.

Fall Community Day

Join WBCA for an afternoon of fall-themed fun with live music, a pumpkin carving contest, make-and-take art projects, and more. Costumes are welcome! This is a FREE family-friendly event, open to all.

Wonders of the Night Sky

Make the stars your old friends as we watch the great celestial show in the skies over Grand Rapids. We start with a short orientation followed by quality time outside under the heavens. Get to know some constellations like the Big Bear, Pegasus, Cygnus the Swan, and the stories behind them. Some large reflecting telescopes will be used for close up views of star clusters, nebulae, galaxies, and other wonders in the night skies.

The Draft Horse Experience

Participants will get a hands-on, 90-minute experience with our horses. Participants will assist in preparing the horses for a day's work including grooming and harnessing. You’ll be able to get to know our big, gentle draft horses. A trolley ride will then include the opportunity to take the reins under the supervision of our teamster.
