The Little Cottonwood River runs right by Jeffers Petroglyphs as it makes its way to the Minnesota River. The Dakota place name for the Little Cottonwood River is Imni-Za-Ka-Sa-Deca meaning to split, crack or grind. Dakota place names are highly descriptive.
