Saturday Storytime Make & Take

Don't miss our first Saturday Storytime Make & Take on September 28th at 10:00. Local award-winning children's author Barbara Swisher Amundson will read her new book Stanley's Standing Ovation! The story celebrates each person's uniqueness and helps children find confidence in who they are. Storytime will conclude with a make and take arts & crafts project for each young listener.

Ruthie Foster - Album Release

Ruthie Foster has been nominated for a Best Blues Album Grammy three times in a row. She has seven Blues Music Awards, three Austin Music Awards, the Grand Prix du Disque award from the Académie Charles-Cros in France, a Living Blues Critics’ Award for Female Blues Artist of the Year, and the title of an “inspiring American Artist” as a United States Artists 2018 Fellow.

Ipso Facto

A very special Ipso Facto performance featuring all original members! The band makes a rare appearance to honor recently departed former Dakota Executive Chef Remy Pettus on his birthday. Also, they will invite old friends Jellybean Johnson (guitar), Bobby Vandell (drums), and Brian Ziemniak (keyboards) to join them. Additionally, they will play some new Wain McFarlane songs that Chef Remy collaborated on lyrics with.

The Crusade For Forgotten Souls (In person and Zoom)

Thursday evening, October 3rd the History Center of Olmsted County is extremely lucky to host Susan Bartlett Foote, author of The Crusade For Forgotten Souls, for our Gather 'Round lecture series. In 1866, the MN State Legislature established the first Minnesota Hospital for the Insane in St. Peter, the Minnesota Inebriate Asylum (later known as the Rochester State Hospital) followed in 1879. In total, there were eleven state psychiatric hospitals opened in Minnesota.
