The Foshay Tower is one of the most recognizable landmarks in the Twin Cities. Utilities magnate Wilbur Foshay built this endearing homage to the Washington Monument in 1929. At 447 feet housing 32 stories, the Foshay Tower was the tallest building in the Midwest for 48 years. Visit the museum to uncover the remarkable story behind this unique skyscraper and its eccentric creator. And view the city from the outdoor Observation Deck on the 31st floor.
Fortune Bay Resort is the northwood’s premier vacation destination. The resort, which includes an 80 slip marina and RV Park, is nestled in a mature forest on the shores of beautiful Lake Vermilion. It offers a variety of activities including boating, canoeing, fishing, golf, outdoor games, walking trails, cross country skiing, ice fishing houses, easy access to snowmobile trails. Located in the heart of the Twin Cities, this park offers extensive hiking, bike and ski trails that link to Minnehaha Park and the Minnesota Valley National Wildlife Refuge. Canoe on Gun Club Lake, play golf, swim in Snelling Lake, or hike on Pike Island where the Mississippi and Minnesota rivers converge. Interpretive exhibits and films on display in the Thomas C. Savage Visitor Center give visitors a good background on the history and resources of the park and area. Trails also allow visitors to hike up to the historic Fort Snelling for a view of military life in the 1820s.
Located in the historical Fort Snelling complex, just minutes from the Mall of America and the International Airport, the Fort Snelling Golf Course is the perfect place to get away to and play a quick nine holes of golf. The par 35 layout at Fort Snelling Golf Course is a great test for the average golfer, offering a variety of holes. The course consists of six par four's (all unique to one another), one par five and two par three's. The golf course is known for it's exceptional condition.
This Central Minnesota trail is primarily flat and easy to ride with an occasional rolling hill. The trail narrows and winds through rolling oak- and pine-covered hills near Sebie Lake, along the old Burlington Northern railroad grade. The Crow Wing South Loop connects Fort Ripley Trail to Brainerd and additional riding on the Pine Center Trails.
Tour Historic Fort Ridgely and wander through the ruins of this once thriving outpost. Learn about the U.S.-Dakota War of 1862, a major event in Minnesota's early history. Visit the museum and the cemetery to learn more. For recreation, this park offers plenty. In the summer, hike or ride the trails on horseback, fish the stocked pond or trout stream, camp (drive-in and walk-in sites are available), or stay overnight in the renovated farmhouse. In the winter, ski, snowmobile, or stay overnight at the chalet.

Replica of 1862 civilian fort, built to protect settlers. The site includes log cabin and stockade, 1902 Delafield Church, sod house, blacksmith shop, 1873 Lysgard farmhouse, grist mill and museum. A Mountain Man Rendezvous is held annually, the weekend after Labor Day.
Fort Alexandria is a replica of the original fort commissioned in 1862 to provide protection from the Dakota Indian upraising during the Civil War. The original buildings were all moved to help create the feel of the fort and include a log general store, log cabin, one-room school house, the Miltona Stage Coach Stop, church, blacksmith shop, smokehouse, laundry, and a large agricultural building with additional exhibits. Included in the fort is the 40 ft. Viking merchant ship "Snorri."
The park features a rugged wooded landscape with blue ribbon trout streams, 17 mi of hiking trails and 15 miles of horseback trails, campgrounds, picnicking and abundant plant and animal life. Mystery Cave is located in the State Park and offers guided tours daily in the summer months. Minnesota's longest known cave, with stalactites, stalagmites, flowstone, and beautiful underground pools, and a maze of interconnecting passages. Modern lighting and walkways enhance accessible tours.
