Learn the basics of geocaching and use your new skills to search for eggs hidden along the trails. All equipment provided. Ages 5+.

Genealogy Presentation: Researching Midwestern River People

Do you have a riverboat captain, engineer, dock worker, mate, or other worker in your family or someone involved in a business that served the river industry? Stymied about how to research these nomadic people? Discover the abundant and unique resources for researching the interesting, but often elusive, lives of river people. This session covers published, manuscript, microfilmed, and online resources and how to use them.

GASHKIBIDAAGANAG: A Selection of Bandolier Bags

Gashkibidaaganag, or bandolier bags, are ornately beaded bags originating from Native artists around the Great Lakes region in the mid-19th century, which were worn primarily by men. Today, beadwork artists continue to make gashkibidaaganag for all people to wear at powwows and other special events. This display highlights bandolier bags from the Tweed collection and the Duluth Children’s Museum.

Garry Bjorklund Half Marathon

Garry Bjorklund won the inaugural Grandma’s Marathon in 1977 and was again the champion in 1980.

While that may be his local claim to fame, the Duluth area native also represented the United States in the 1976 Montreal Olympic Games, placing 13th in the 10,000-meters.

In 1991, the Garry Bjorklund Half Marathon was created to recognize his lifelong contributions to running throughout the area and state of Minnesota.

GalaxyCon Minneapolis

Put on your dancing shoes and move out to our beautiful hardwood dance floor or sit back and enjoy the music. Galaxy, featuring Glenn Henriksen, Donnie Fausch, Mark Kurseth & Jerry Behnkendorf, plays all the favorites from the 50's and 60's, and more.

Fur Trade Weekend

Experience the Sibley Historic Site in the 1830s when Mendota was the center of the fur trade. Visitors can walk the grounds and interact with fur trade reenactors, take tours of the historic site, and enjoy live music and presentations on various topics related to the fur trade throughout the day.

Full Moon Snowshoe Hike

Enjoy the park after dark while embarking on a snowshoe hike with a naturalist guide. If the sky is clear, peer through a telescope to view the moon up close! All equipment provided.
