Join us for the MLK President’s Breakfast and Keynote Speaker James White, Executive Vice President of the Center for Social Impact at YMCA of the North Thursday, January 25, 2024, 7– 9 a.m. in T. Plaza 7 a.m: live music by the College's Jazz Ensemble 7:30 a.m: breakfast and speaker to follow The keynote will focus on Dr. King's legacy as exemplified through the DEI work of the YMCA of the North.

Marc Ribot: The Jazz-Bins

“Ribot’s style [is] embedded in jazz vocabulary, but angular and gritty” – Sound of Boston An organ trio featuring guitar hero Marc Ribot, Hammond B3 organ virtuoso Greg Lewis, and drummer Joe Dyson. The Jazz-Bins use deep grooves and over-the-top improvisation to channel the spirits of Newark’s Key Club and Sparky J’s Lounge, and NYC’s CBGB circa 1977 into a quest for punk/soul salvation.

Hot Chocolate History: That Little Place at the Lake

Legacy of the Lakes Museum will host February’s Hot Chocolate & History. Going to the lake is a time-honored Minnesota tradition and cabins and cottages wait on the water’s edge to welcome their owners home. From “Swiss” chalets to log cabins to colonial cottages, this talk explores 150 years of cottage evolution in Minnesota.

Chastity Brown

Based in Minnesota, with roots in Tennessee, Chastity Brown grew up surrounded by country and soul music. In the gospel church of her childhood, she played saxophone and drums and found her singing voice and a passion for music. She’s been featured on NPR’s “Favorite Sessions,” CMT, American Songwriter, the London Times, Paste Magazine and others.

Arturo O'Farrill Quintet

“an elegant array… truly universal music” – NBC News Arturo O’Farrill, pianist, composer, and educator was born in Mexico and grew up in New York City. Winner of six Grammy Awards, Arturo has performed with orchestras and bands including his own Afro-Latin Jazz Orchestra and Arturo O’Farrill Sextet, in the US, Europe, Russia, Australia, and South America.
