First Day Hike - Candlelight Event

Half the park is after dark! Enjoy a self-guided candlelit stroll under the stars on New Years Day. Along the trail you will be able to see the Milky Way and waning moon. Stop by the trail's end to view Jupiter and other celestial objects through telescopes. At the end of your hike stop at the picnic shelter to warm up by the fire and enjoy hot cocoa and cookies. Meet at the picnic shelter. If there is snow, there will be snowshoe for loan for free.

The Drums of Navarone in Concert

The Drums of Navarone is an eight-piece Afro-Latin funk orchestra devoted to moving body and spirit with unifying power of music. The band melds Afro-Latin rhythms with the sounds of funk, jazz, and soul. The band is headquartered in Minneapolis, the music Mecca of the Midwest.

Tickets are $20.00 in advance and $25.00 at the door. Seating is general admission and doors open at 6:30 PM. Concessions will be available for sale during the concert.

Lantern Loppet

Come out for a beautiful night to ski by lamp light! Events will start at dusk. There will be fires, friendship, marshmallows, hot chocolate, and of course some skiing.

The Lantern Loppet will be held at the Nordic Center ski area in Mora. There will be a beautiful course through the woods lit by lanterns. Come and enjoy.

Join us as the sun goes down and ski into the night.

Itasca's Evening Lantern Lit Snowshoe and Ski

Start at the Jacob V. Brower Visitor Center. Trail illuminated along the South Entrance Road approximately 3.5 miles round-trip.

Come out and ski or snowshoe by the light of the stars and kerosene lanterns along the trail. Snowshoe, walk, or ski at your own pace along the lantern-lit route during this drop-in program.

NOTES: Program is held outdoors. Dress warmly for outdoor winter conditions. Snowshoe walk/ski is self-guided at your leisure.

Remember a headlamp or flashlight as some portions of the trail can be dark.
