Powwow for Hope

Powwow for Hope is a nationwide fundraiser for American Indian Cancer Foundation that leads to a community event held in Minneapolis, MN, where thousands come together to honor loved ones who have faced or are currently facing cancer by creating a space for healing. Proceeds benefit the Foundation’s mission to eliminate cancer burdens on Native people through improved access to prevention, early detection, treatment, and survivor support. Habitat For Humanity Pickers Paradise

ConFluence: A Cultured Multiverse

The ConFluence Planning Team + Public Functionary are doing this one for the culture. ConFluence is a 2-day celebration of art, sci-fi, futurisms, and fantasy–– centered on content by and for Black people, Indigenous people, and People of Color. There will be creative workshops, panel discussions, a cosplay contest, a vendor marketplace, gaming area, a curated visual art exhibition, and a dope retro-themed evening dance party you don’t want to miss. Also featured––culinary delights from PF Cafe.

Glow Hike Events

Enjoy the thrill of hiking at night on an illuminated trail to greet the passing of the Harvest Moon at Flandrau State Park. There will be a park naturalist-led program, warm refreshments, a campfire to warm your hand, and plenty of opportunities to get outside and fun with friends and family. The trail is a one-mile loop that is flat and suitable for all people of all ages. Because the path is not paved, please wear sturdy and comfortable shoes.

Life at High G-Force: Author Talk with E. Andrew Wood (In Person or Zoom)

Dr. Wood is best known for his ground-breaking work on the G-suit during World War II. He became one of Mayo Clinic’s most prominent researchers, playing a pivotal role in the creation of several innovative medical technologies including cardiac catheterization, the oximeter, and computer-based X-ray techniques. Dr. Wood's son, Andrew Wood has written LIFE AT HIGH G-FORCE: The Quest of Mayo Clinic Researcher Dr. Earl H. Wood which will be released later this month. Join us October 26, 2023, at 7pm at the History Center for an in-depth fascinating talk with Andrew Wood.

Verse Like Water: the visiting poet program of Central Lakes College

As we begin year 12, Verse Like Water presents Ilya Kaminksy (Odessa Ukraine), Valzhyna Mort (Belarus), and Nikola Madzirov (Macedonia) on September 27th, at noon in the CLC Chalberg Theater. These stars of the international poetry scene are dear friends, and through reading and conversation they will help Verse Like Water grow poetry, and give us all insight and perspectives about a troubled and war-torn region of the world: Eastern Europe. Sponsored by the CLC Foundation, The Minnesota State Arts Board, Minnesota Public Radio, and the Olseth Family Foundation.
