Big Stone National Wildlife Refuge

Good birding site, best visited in migration or early summer. Western vagrants are always a good possibility, and there are many good nesting species here as well. Self-guided auto tours and foot trails through the wildlife refuge. Wildlife observation, birding, fishing from riverbank or non-motorized boat on Minnesota River. Interpretive hiking trail, native prairie. Deer, small game and upland game hunting.

Big Stone Lake State Park

On the shores of this large lake, visitors enjoy quiet sunsets and excellent walleye fishing at the source of the Minnesota River. The drive along the lakeshore, through the apple orchards north of Ortonville, is especially beautiful in the fall. 3 mi hiking trail. Semi-modern camping with sanitary facilities, swimming beach, boat launch with dock. Canoe and kayaks available on weekends - Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day. Visitors also enjoy the park's native prairie and bird watching opportunities.

Big Stone Lake Area Chamber

Explore the attractions and scenic waters of the Big Stone Lake Area! At the foot of Big Stone Lake is where the Minnesota River begins its journey through the southern Minnesota countryside. Campground facilities at the foot of Big Stone Lake, swimming beaches, fishing pier, public access and fishing docks. Big Stone County Toqua Park

Park on Toqua Lake, has 18 campsites with elec. Showers and toilets are available in park. There is a playground, swimming beach, boat landing, two softball fields. A picnic shelter is available. There is also a golf coarse near by open to the public.

Big Stone County Historical Museum

Welcome to the Big Stone County Historical Museum. The museum aims to collect and preserve information about the its local history and to make that information available for future generations. They also work to collect and preserve historic buildings, monuments, sites and trails in the area. At the museum there is a walking trail available for people to use which allows them to walk around the lake and see some of the outdoor historic displays including fossils, and models of a farm house and two log cabins and others.

10.0 km trackset. Beginner to advanced level trails. Trail runs through rolling forest of hardwoods and evergreens. Expert loops include steep hills. Caution: snowmobile trail intersects this trail system. Maps along trail. Ski pass required.
