Trails By Candlelight-Thompson County Park

Walk around the lake and through the woods on candlelight hiking and snowshoe trails, and plowed walking trails. A variety of snowshoe, hiking and walking trails, and distances, will be lit with hundreds of candles. Warm up with hot cocoa and crackling bonfires. Cocoa provided. Hot food available for purchase from food trucks.

Dogs not allowed. Service animals permitted.

Traditional Campfire Program

Join James Pointer, park interpreter, for a traditional campfire program. The evening will include songs, stories, skits, and other audience participation activities. Dress appropriately for the outdoors and bring your own lawn chairs or blanket. Meet by the water of the Armstrong Bay Day Use Area. The program will be held inside the picnic shelter if there is inclement weather. Content is appropriate for all ages. Program is free of charge.

Tracking the Pack

Want to experience the life of a biologist? Join us for this wolf research weekend adventure! Discuss wolf research and management, learn what tools biologists use in the field to locate and study wild wolves and test your new skills with our telemetry equipment. We’ll even head into the field to search for the signal of wild wolves in the area.

Tracking and Animal Sign Field Trip

Often, when traversing the Sax-Zim Bog, tracks are encountered. But how do you know if you are looking at dog vs wolf tracks? What is the difference between a hole made by a Downy Woodpecker and a Black-backed Woodpecker? We will investigate the activity by critters in the Sax-Zim Bog through an investigation of the area around the Welcome Center.

Town and Country Days

The City of Kerkhoven will have its celebration. There are many events scheduled for all ages. Bring the whole family and enjoy the festivities!

Tour De Water

An urban bike ride for all ages with distances from 5, 10, 15 or 20 miles. The ride has no hills. Proceeds will go to the Southeast MN Regional Science Fair.
