Come join the discussion on the social and psychological impact of institutionalization through case study records of children at the Minnesota State Public School for Dependent and Neglected Children. This deep dive into the children’s family history and living environments prior to and throughout the institutionalization will provide insight into some of the long-term effects that some children experienced. This program is free to SCHS members; $5 for non-members.

On a 90-minute guided tour, learn how Minnesotans played important roles in the Civil War by looking at battle flags, art and memorials commemorating their participation in that war. Visit the Governor's Reception Room, where six renowned paintings depict Minnesota regiments in battle. View statues of Civil War officers and conserved battle flags, including a flag staff that survived the Battle of Gettysburg. Hear stories about governors who as young men had their lives changed by their experiences.
View grand murals, paintings, sculptures and lavish decorations while touring legislative chambers, historic spaces and corridors of the Minnesota State Capitol. Find out details about the art and hear stories about the artists that painted them. Learn about recent conservation work completed to bring the works of art back to their original appearance.
As much as Minnesotans love to embrace winter, we simply can't wait for the first signs of spring.
