Learn new paddling skills in 24-foot Voyageur canoes, and view spectacular scenery and abundant wildlife along the way. Explore waterfalls, hidden coves, and scenic waterways. Listen for the cry of the loon and the howl of the timber wolf, as you glide through the crystal clear waters of north country’s big lakes. Haydn’s Surprise Symphony

Surprises abound in this program curated by SPCO Principal
Horn James Ferree! Dmitri Shostakovich’s “Elegy and Polka” — not performed as
often as his other works — are excerpted arrangements from his opera Lady
Macbeth of the Mtsensk District
and ballet The Golden Age.  Embracing the spirit of surprise, the
program’s titular work is Franz Joseph Haydn’s delightful Symphony No. 94,
nicknamed the Surprise … no spoilers, please!

The Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra: Haydn’s “Il Distratto” Symphony

Comedy and tragedy intertwine
in this program of theatrical music including Ludwig van Beethoven’s dramatic “Coriolan”
Overture and Felix Mendelssohn’s lighthearted music for William Shakespeare’s “A
Midsummer Night’s Dream ”
. Haydn’s “Il Distratto” Symphony repurposes
music from a comedic play about a gentleman so absent-minded he nearly forgets
his own wedding!

Musician Appreciation Concert

Please join us for our sixth annual Musician
Appreciation Concert in celebration of the musicians of The Saint Paul Chamber
Orchestra, who enrich our community by sharing their incredible artistry with
thousands of people every year. This special concert will showcase the
extraordinary talents of our musicians in solo and ensemble performances and
will feature unique opportunities to get to know members of the orchestra. All
proceeds from this event will go directly to SPCO musicians.
